Perfesco is assisting GE with the renovation of its lighting systems

Lighting Modernization for Greater Energy Efficiency

As part ofits work supporting General Electricin the area of energy efficiency, Perfesco explored potential improvements, particularly in the area of lighting. Indeed, these systems were aging and no longer met users’ needs, both technically and financially.

For General Electric, the old lighting system used different colors (yellow, white, etc.) and had issues with safety and illuminance levels; as a result, it no longer met regulatory standards.

The energy-efficiency project involves replacing all of a building’s lighting with LEDs.Since the building receives ample natural light, Perfesco has implemented a management system. This system makes it possible to monitor employee presence in the building and to manage the amount of natural light entering the building throughout the day.

A turnkey project for significant cost savings

The EDF Group provided General Electric with a true turnkey project:

  • initial diagnosis,
  • project design,
  • selection of suppliers and service providers,
  • monitoring of the work,
  • System commissioning.

The long-standing partnership with EDF has enabled General Electric to implement an innovative system through an ESCO (energy services company), which is based on financing the work using the energy savings achieved. This is what General Electric was able to do with EDF, which handled the project from start to finish.

Feedback from operators has been very positive:the brightness at workstations is better, all light fixtures provide better lighting, and the light is warmer (especially at night). In addition, maintenance is much easier because the light fixtures have a longer lifespan.

LED technology has enabled General Electric to reduce its electricity consumption by 80 percent:its annual electricity costs have dropped from 100,000€ to 20,000€ per year.

Following that, they are working on two other major projects in collaboration with EDF: one on compressed air, and the other on building heating.

According to EDF, industrial customers are looking for competitiveness (that is, technical and economic performance). The division’s sales teams meet with business development engineers throughout France and propose solutions to help achieve this goal.
