Toray Films Europe is accelerating its energy transition with Perfesco and EDF
Toray Films Europe, a subsidiary of the Japanese Toray Group and a market leader in technical plastic films (PET and OPP), is strengthening its commitment to energy efficiency. Furthermore, through its partnership with EDF and Perfesco, several energy-efficiency projects have been implemented at its industrial site in Saint-Maurice-de-Beynost. As a result, thisthis transformation was carried out without any initial investment on Toray’s part, thanks an innovative financing model from Perfesco.
An innovative financing model
Thanks to the financing model offered by Perfesco, Toray was able to carry out these energy-efficiency projects without having to draw on its capital budgets. “Our clients benefit from CAPEX-free solutions, where the energy savings generated fully cover the cost of the projects,” explains Laurent Kraif, president of Perfesco. Thus, Perfesco’s support allows the client to allocate its budgets to other strategic projects for the company, while accelerating the achievement of its decarbonization goals.
Concrete plans to reduce the energy footprint
Several initiatives have been implemented at the Saint-Maurice-de-Beynost site:
- Insulation of Gas Furnaces : By reducing heat loss, this initiative has cut energy consumption by 1 GWh per year.
- Switch to LED Lighting : The new LED lighting systems, equipped with motion sensors, have made it possible to optimize lighting levels based on employees’ actual needs. As a result, this upgrade improves employee comfort and ensures optimal safety on site while reducing energy consumption.
- Renovation of the cooling system : The installation of new refrigeration equipment and cooling towers has resulted in annual electricity savings of 2.3 GWh, while preventing the emission of 210 metric tons of CO2 per year. These new systems also meet a process requirement and have improved the site’s refrigeration capacity.
Thanks to these initiatives, Toray Films Europe has reduced its energy consumption by 5 GWh per year. These projects are part of the site’s energy optimization strategy, which aims to reduce energy consumption by 30% between 2021 and 2030.
A Strong Partnership for a More Sustainable Industry
In fact, EDF has been working with Toray Films Europe for several years to help the company optimize its energy consumption. “We don’t just supply energy. We help our industrial partners improve their energy efficiency in a sustainable way,”, says Frédéric Sarrazin, director of EDF Commerce for the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
These projects demonstrate that energy efficiency and industrial performance go hand in hand: Toray has sustainably reduced its energy footprint and associated energy costs, thereby strengthening its competitiveness and brand image.
Perfesco thus continues to support manufacturers in their energy transition with customized solutions that guarantee concrete and measurable results.
