Certas Energy and the EDF Group: An LED Story
An efficient network of gas stations
Certas Energy France operates a network of 400 gas stations throughout the country. Every day, approximately 100,000 customers fill up with high-quality fuel under the ESSO brand.
The Certas network consists of three types of stations:
- 275 ESSO Express self-service stations
- about 50 highway rest stops
- 70 stations operated by independent owners
Operational excellence is at the heart of Certas’ priorities. The goal is to ensure that the network remains fully operational and accessible 7 days a week. This excellence is based on several pillars: the availability of products and facilities, as well as the quality of services. An attractive, clean, and welcoming location enhances the customer experience and builds customer loyalty.
A Strategic Partnership with EDF and Perfesco
Since its founding, Certas Energy France has had an electricity supply contract with EDF. Thanks to this relationship built on trust, Certas naturally turned to EDF to reduce its energy consumption and optimize the lighting at its gas stations.
EDF thus put Certas in touch with Perfesco, a subsidiary of the group that specializes in energy performance and the financing of energy efficiency projects. Perfesco supports its clients by offering them high-performance technical solutions and covering the investment costs, which are recouped through the resulting energy savings.
To meet Certas’s specific needs, Perfesco designed a custom solution incorporating smart LEDs. This equipment provides better lighting quality while reducing energy consumption through:
- a decrease in consumption
- lighting adjusted to meet the actual needs of each site
Tangible results and substantial savings
The fuel retail sector operates on very low margins and high volumes. Any cost savings are therefore a major priority for Certas. The LED solution offered by Perfesco has resulted in significant energy savings while also enhancing the appeal of the sites.
Before rolling out the project on a large scale, Certas conducted tests at two pilot stations to validate the results. The pilot program demonstrated a 35% reduction in energy consumption at a gas station. Convinced by these results, Certas deployed the solution across its entire network.
Six months after the smart LEDs were installed, the results are impressive:
- 65% energy savings on lighting
- a reduction in consumption equivalent to that of 600 French households
